What Craniosacral has Taught Me as a Space Holder.

I am a Craniosacral Practitioner. I focus in the somatic realm of healing.

I think it’s safe to say the collective nervous system is in a state of upheaval.

It’s not just confronting a body holding difficult relationship dynamics, or the tissues unwinding what happened in childhood. It’s unpacking a nervous system trying to hold what’s happening now every single day changes and instability in our modern world.

I work with individuals primarily that suffer with PTSD and complex post traumatic stress (CPTSD.)

I’ve been fascinated about what it means to heal for years, as we often do our best to attempt to create the care we need. I’ve wanted to do whatever I can to help those experiencing this move through it and find resolution or release of what the body is holding in a way that feels in alignment.

I have to say recently probably more than ever I have been in a loss of words, and a loss of neutral space. My head feels foggy and I do my best to remember I am not supposed to have the answers.

I imagine many therapists feel this exact same loss of words. For a while whenever this cycle would flare up with in me I would hang onto hope that it would get better. And it’s not that I’ve lost all hope, it’s that I’m beginning to really feel the weight of what humanity is working with.

It feels possible to hold space for a body going through a life transition, leaving a difficult relationship, shifting careers, or just navigating life with symptoms of nervous system dysregulation from a traumatic event.

However when we are all going through a collective transition into a completely unknown territory with no guard rails. It’s hard to keep myself centered even outside of the treatment room.

It isn’t like I am going through a current personal crisis, I am just feeling the collective crisis that we are all in.

I can’t deny I want the answers. The savior aspect of my psyche wants to tell my clients it will be okay, that they can use the tools I have to find resilience one day. That they will be able to live in a way free of these oppressive forces.

I have to remind myself I am not here to be a savior, I am here to be a container for what needs to be felt.

The tools are our alchemy practices, but they do not take away the direct threats. They are vehicles to shift our consciousness, but breathwork alone doesn’t fight climate crisis.

I do believe in the Wui Wei, the Tao, and all things we experience are a part of a greater natural cycle. But that doesn’t take away the real time pain and collective and relative daily turmoil.
